Expression of Survivin,C-erbB-2 and Ki-67 in gastric cancer and its clinical significance

Objective To study the expression of inhibitor apoptosis protein of Survivin in gastric cancer and its correlation with clinicopathological factor,C-erbB-2 expression and cell proliferation.Meth- ods Immunohistochemical staining of Survivin,C-erbB-2 and Ki-67 was performed by the standard streptavidin-peroxidase(SP)technique for the paraffin sections of 92 gastric cancers.The relationship be- tween the Survivin expression and the clinicopathological parameters,prognosis,C-erbB-2 expression or the proliferation index was analyzed.Results The positive rate of Survivin in gastric carcinoma was 37.0%(34/92),no expression of Survivin was detected in normal gastric tissues.Significant correlation was found between Survivin expression with histological differentiation grade,tumor depth,1.ymph node metastasis,TMN stage of gastric carcinoma.The 5-year survival rate of patients with Survivin-positive tu- mors was significantly lower than that of patients with Survivin-negative tumors (26.5 % vs 51.7 %,P＜0.05,log-rank test).The positive rate of C-erbB-2 expression in gastric carcinoma was 47.8%,the C- erbB-2 expression in positive expression of Survivin(76.5 %)was significantly higher than that in nega- tive expression of Survivin(31.0 %,P＜0.05).The proliferation index in Survivin-positive gastric carci- noma(43.74±19.32)% was significantly higher than in Survivin-negative colorectal carcinoma (21.87±19.40)%(P＜0.05).Conclusion The Survivin expression can serve as an important param- eter of malignant degree and prognosis of gastric carcinoma,it was positively correlated with C-erbB-2ex- pression and may promote cell proliferation in gastric carcinoma.
