Breeding of Fine Grain Quality Indica CMS Line Q1A in Rice

Abstract
Q1A is a new WA-type indica CMS line with very good grain quality in rice. It was developed by crossing a selected single plant from (Jin 23B×58B) F_3 to Zhongjiu B, then backcrossing its F_2 plants with Zhenshan 97A successively. It is characteristic of stable male sterility, high outcrossing rate, good combining ability and fine grain quality. It was technically identified in Chongqing in July, 2003. Its hybrid Q You 2 (Q1A×Chenghui 047) is a new medium indica hybrid combination with fine grain quality, high-yielding ability and good blast resistance. It was certified by Chongqing Crop Variety Release Committee in December, 2002.
