Abstract
Zhongzhe A, derived from backcrossing a variant plant of Ps-21, one of the fine grain quality germplasms introduced from India, to the CMS line Zhenshan 97A, is a new good grain quality indica CMS line. It was technically certified in Zhejiang Province in September, 2000. Its main grain quality characters reach the first or second class standards of fine quality rice issued by Chinese Ministry of Agriculture. It possesses stable sterility with 100% of sterile plants,99.99% of pollen sterility and 100% of spikelet sterility. It shows high outcrossing rate (42.7%)and stigma exsertion rate (71.32%). Its resistance of diseases is superior to that of Ⅱ-32A.Its F_1 hybrids show new good plant type, high yield potential and especially good grain quality.
