Abstract
To study the plasma homocysteine(Hcy)level in the patients with first ever acute cerebral infarction and to investigate the relationship between the plasma Hcy and the clinical subtypes of cerebral infarction and the severity of the disease.Methods:73 cases with first ever cerebral infarction were divided into five subgroups,according to TOAST criteria,large-artery artherosclerosis,lacunar infarction,cardio embolism,stroke of other determined cause and undetermined cause,30 normal persons were selected as control group.We recorded their demographic data,vascular risk factors,the stroke severity(National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale,NIHSS)and investigated the plasma Hcy level in the patients and normal controls.The plasma Hcy level in the patients was significantly higher than that in the control group.The plasma Hcy level in the patients with large-artery artherosclerosis was significantly higher than that in the control group.The difference of plasma Hcy was not significant between the small-artery occlusion and control group.The level of the plasma Hcy in patients was positively correlated to the stroke severity.High plasma Hcy is one of the risk factors for the cerebral infarction and large-artery artherosclerosis.The level of the plasma Hcy in patients was positively correlated to the stroke severity.
