Abstract

OBJECTIVE To study the distribution and antimicrobial resistance of Acinetobacter baumannii infection. METHODS Two hundred and fourteen strains of A.baumannii isolated from patients with infection from Jan 2003 to Dec 2004 were collected and antimicrobial susceptibility tests were performed. RESULTS Sixty-one strains(28.5%) of A.baumannii were from intensive care unit;ninety-seven strains(45.3%) were from old sufferers. The resistant rates of the strains to the third generation cephalosporin and ciprofloxacin were both more than 50.0%;the resistant rate to meropenem was the lowest(4.2%),followed by imipenem-cilastatin(7.9%) and cefoperazone-sulbactam(8.9%);one hundred and thirty-one strains (61.2%) were multi-resistant to antimicrobial agents. CONCLUSIONS Carbapenem and cefoperazone/sulbactam still have a strong antimicrobial activity against A.baumannii.Antimicrobial agents should be used rationally to decrease multi-drug resistance.
