Characteristics of distribution and antimicrobial resistance of acinetobacter baumannii

OBJECTIVE To investigate the distribution and antimicrobial resistance of Acinetobacter baumannii in hospital.METHODS Totally 270 strains of A.baumannii isolated from patients with infection from Oct 2006 to Oct 2009 were collected and antimicrobial susceptibility tests were performed.RESULTS There were 213 strains(78.89%) isolates which were obtained mainly from sputum over the three years.A.baumannii strains were largely distributed in pediatrics(21.11%),second in intensive care unit(17.78%),third in respiratory department(14.45%).The antimicrobial resistant rate of A.baumannii strains to impenem was the lowest(8.52%),followed by meropenem(9.63%) and minocycline(19.63%).More than 40.00% of isolates were resistant to the rest of antimicrobial agents.CONCLUSION The people who infect A.baumannii tend to be younger:Carbapenem still have a strong antimicrobial activity against A.baumannii,but lots of the strains are non-susceptible to the antimicrobial which contains β-Lactamase inhibitors.The surveillance of antimicrobial resistance should be enhanced and the antibiotics should be selected rationally.
