The clinical application of micro-implant anchorage in orthodontic treatment

Objective: To investigate the clinical application and therapeutic effects of micro-implant anchorage in orthodontic treatment.Methods: Retrospective analysis of 65 patients that underwent orthodontic treatment in our hospital during June,2008 and June,2009 was conducted.The experimental group(n=34) was treated with micro-implant anchorage for treatment,while the control group(n=31) was treated with extraoral anchorage treatment with arch palatal bar.Efficacy of the two groups were observed and compared.Results: After 13 months of treatment,both groups showed effects,but the observation group showed better outcomes,specifically,indicators of SNA,SNB,ANB,U1-L1,U1-SN,L1-MP,U1-NA,L1-NB under x-ray were better than that of the control group t(P0.05);Besides,the observation group also showed better outcomes regarding to OB,OJ,inter-canine width,the width between the first molars comparing with the control group although the control group also showed improvements in these indicators.(P0.05).Stability of micro-implant anchorage was also better.Conclusions: Compared with the conventional anchorage method,micro-implant anchorage is a better treatment with advantages of fewer traumas,simpler procedure,better stability and it′s worth for application in large scale.
