On the Reasons of Termination of the Three-port Commerce Minister

Abstract

The Three-port Commerce Minister was established in Tianjin after the second Opium War in order to meet the changing situation.The minister specialized in business and foreign affairs.After the Tianjin Missionary Case in 1870,it was terminated for many reasons.This paper analyses the deep reasons from such aspects as the conflict of bureaucracy system,the imperfect of foreign policy and acute contrary between China and foreign countries.
