Determination of the severity of traffic conflict at highway intersections

Abstract

This paper introduces the method of gathering data of traffic conflict in detail on the basis of analyzing the present research situation of the traffic conflict at home and abroad.Then some useful data such as the distance and the speed of the vehicle when the conflict occurs are obtained through video recording observation and the time to collision is also gained.The paper also does some research on the severity of the conflict at highway intersections according to the cumulative percentage of the time to collision.Finally,10 highway intersections are chosen to carry out the supposition examination.
