Abstract

Using sodium bisulfate as catalyst on the esterification of isopropyl acetate was studied. The optimized conditions are as follows: the mole ratio of acid to alcohol is 2∶1, and the amount of the catalyst is 10% of isopropanol, the reaction temperature is 95 ℃ and the reaction time is 1 h, the yield may up to 94.16%. Experiment results showed that the sodium bisulfate is a highly active catalyst for this reaction. It is an simple and very practical method.
