Abstract
Objective:To evoluate the effect of vitrectomy on proliferative diabetic retinopathy.Methods:Eightyˉtwo eyes of82patients received the vitrectomy for proliferative diabetic retinopathy.Preoperative visual acuity ranged from ligh perception to0.04.Results:The followˉup ranged from6to48months(mean:1year).The retina was successfully attached in67eyes(82%).The final visual acuity increased in55eyes(67%),stable in9eyes(11%)and decreased in18eyes(22%).Postoperative complications mainly included vitreous hemorˉrhage(8eyes),retinal detachment(15eyes),development of secondary glaucoma(9eyes),fibrin reaction(12eyes),posterior synechia of the iris(15eyes),nuclear sclerosis(18eyes)and eye atrophy(8eyes).Conclusion:Vitrectomy for proliferative diabetic retinopathy is valuable in improving the patient's visual acuity.
