Abstract

Objective To observe the efficacy and complications of vitreoretinal surgery on proliferative diabetic retinopathy. Methods The clinical data of 39 patients(61 eyes) with proliferative diabetic retinopathy who had undergone vitreoretinal surgery were analyzed retrospectivly. The follow-up duration was 10—24 months(average 13.5 months). Results The preoperative visual acuity was light perception in 42 eyes, counting finger—0.02 in 13 eyes,0.03—0.05 in six eyes.At the end of the follow-up period, the visual acuity was no light perception in one eye, light perception in two eyes, counting finger—0.02 in five eyes,0.03—0.05 in eight eyes,0.06—0.1 in 11 eyes,0.12—0.3 in 18 eyes, and over 0.3 in 16 eyes. The post-operative visual acuity improved in 51 eyes(83.61%),the same as their pre-operative vision in eight eyes(13.11%),reduced in two eyes(3.28%).The main intraoperative complications were hemorrhage and iatrogenic retinal breaks. Conclusion vitreoretinal surgery is effective treatment for proliferative diabetic retinopathy and the complications are few.
