Abstract
Objective To investigate the infection status of H5 and H9 influenza viruses in occupational population in Guangzhou in 2006,and provide scientific basis for the disease control and prevention of avian influenza.Methods 831 serum samples from occupational population(work for the feed,sale and slaughter of poultry),and 735 serum samples from general population in 12 districts of Guangzhou city were collected,and the antibodies against H5 and H9 were detected by hemagglutination inhibition test.Results The antibody positive rate for H9 was 2.2% in the general population and 10.7% in occupational population.No positive samples for H5 had been detected in both populations.Conclusion The latent infection rate of H9 avian influenza virus is higher in occupational population than that in the general population,which indicates the surveillance in occupational population is very important for predicting and prevention of the epidemic of avian influenza.
