Abstract
Objective To investigate the infection status of H5 and H9 influenza viruses among occupational population in poultry environment in Guangzhou from 2011 to 2012,so as to provide scientific basis for the disease control and prevention. Methods 572 serum samples from occupational population(work for the feed, sale and slaughter of poultry),and 648 serum samples from general population in 12 districts of Guangzhou City were detected with antibodies by hemagglutination inhibition test.Meanwhile,415 samples collected from the poultry environment were tested with nucleic acid by using PCR technology. Results The antibody positive rate for H5N1 was 0.52%.In the general population, the antibody of H5N1 were all negative. The positive rate for H5 was 4.10% in the poultry environments, while it was 1.69% for H9.Conclusions There were latent infections of H5 avian influenza virus in occupational population.H5 and H9 avian influenza virus had contaminated the poultry environments, which existed risk of infecting highly pathogenic avian influenza. It indicates that the surveillance in occupational population, well management of ill poultry, enough personal protective device and health education are very important for the prevention of the epidemic of avian influenza.
