Changyanqing I Combined with Xilei Powder in Treatment of Ulcerative Colitis of Dampness and Heat Type:A Report of 15 Cases

Objective To observe the effect of Changyanqing Ⅰ retention enema in treating ulcerative colitis(UC) of dampness and heat type,and observe its effect on the serum levels of interleukin-8(IL-8) and interleukin-4(IL-4).Methods Thirty UC patients with syndrome type of dampness and heat were averagely randomized into a treatment group and a control group.Patients in the treatment group were treated with conventional retention enema of Changyanqing Ⅰ and Xilei Powder,while patients in the controlgroup were treated with retention enema of Xilei Powder only.Patients in both groups were treated with Olsalazine.The disease activity index(DAI),pathological changes of mucosa under electronic colonoscopy,and the content changes of IL-8 and IL-4 were observed.Results After treatment,DAI in the treatment group was significantly lower than that in the control group(P0.01).Electronic colonoscopy showed that the improvement of mucosal inflammation in the treatment group was superior to that in the control group(P0.05).The level of IL-8 was significantly lower than that in the control group(P0.01),while the level of IL-4 was significantly higher than that in the control group(P0.05).Conclusion Changyanqing Ⅰ combined with Xilei Powder has significant effect in treating UC.Decreasing the level of IL-8 and increasing the level of IL-4 may be one of the mechanisms of treating UC.
