Abstract

We have observed TGFβ expression in rat brain tissue after different period of focal cerebral ischemia and reperfusion with a nylon suture model.Seventy-two male Wistar rats were randomly divided into the following groups pseudo-surgical, normal-control, O24R0, O4R24, OZRO, O2R0.5, O2R2, O2R4, O2R8, O2R24, O2R48, O2R96. There were 6 rats in each group. The brain tissue were perfusion-fixed, and done H E stain, immunohistochemic stains of TGFβ 1, 02, and lectinohistochemical stain of BSL. Our results show that there are 2 phases of TGF01 expression, which include the early occurred general expression and the lesion-associated latter phase. The expression of TGFβ2 has only the latter phase paralleled to the expression of TGF01. The main sources of TGF 6 are microglias and macrophages. The expression of TGβ 1 within neurons is a marker for the survived neurons, and might be impoftant to neuron protection.
