Significance of the occurrence and prognosis for apoptosis inhibition protein survivin expression in osteosarcoma

Objective To study the expression of apoptosis inhibition protein survivin in osteosarcoma, and explore its possible effects on the occurrence and prognosis of osteosarcoma. Methods Expression of survivin were detected with SP immunohisto-chemical method in 39 cases of osteosarcoma and 19 cases of osteochondroma. Results The positive rate of survivin was 56. 4% (22/39) in osteosarcoma, which was obviously higher than that (15. 7% , 3/19) in osteochondroma (x2= 3. 612, P0. 05). In the 26 cases of osteosarcoma with distance metastasis, survivin was positive in 18 cases (61. 5%). In the 13 cases of osteosarcoma without metastasis. Survivin was positive 4 cases (30. 8%) (x2 = 3. 172, P0. 05). Conclusion The upregulation of Survivin are related with the occurrence and distance metastasis of osteosarcoma.
