Abstract
Objective To study the expression of survivin protein in human osteosarcoma and its relationship with the occurrence and prognosis of osteosarcoma. Methods The expression of survivin was detected by S-P immunohistochemical technique in 46 cases of human osteosarcoma. Results The positive rate of survivin was 63.0% in 46 cases of osteosarcoma and no survivin was detected in 12 cases of osteochondroma. The expression of survivin was correlated with Enneking stage but not correlated with age,sex,size of the tumor,the tumor' s primary location and histological differentiation. The 5-year survival rate of the patients with survivin positive expression was much lower than that of the patients with survivin negative expression (P 0.05). Conclusion The high expression of survivin in osteosarcoma may play an important role in the proliferation of osteosarcoma and survivin can be used to predict the prognosis of osteosarcoma.
