Abstract

Objective To investigate the expression of surfactant protein A(SP-A) in adenocarcinoma and squamous cell carcinoma of lung and its clinical significance. Methods The expression of SP-A was determined by immunohistochemical assay(EnVision) in 27 cases of adenocarcinoma,15 cases of squamous cell carcinoma of lung. Then the association of SPA expression with clinicopathological parameters was analyzed. Results The expression rate of SP-A was significantly higher in adenocarcinoma of lung than that in squamous cell carcinoma of lung(51.85%vs 6.67%,P0.01).The expression rate of SP-A in papillary adenocarcinoma, bronchioloalveolar carcinoma, acinar adenocarcinoma and musinous adenocarcinoma of lung was respectively 85.71%,50%,40%and 25%.There was no correlation between the expression of SP-A and gender, age, tumor size and lymph node metastasia. Conclusion The expression of SP-A may be associated with histological types of the lung carcinoma, which may be used as important marker in differential diagnosis of adenocarcinoma and squamous cell carcinoma of lung.
