Abstract

British and Russian played a Big Game in Central Asia since mid-19th century and Xinjiang became one goal for them.Therefore,the Qing dynasty made a series of negotiations with Britain and Russia for the issue of Xingjiang.Since late 19th century,many research achievements in the field appeared in western languages,but they were depended seriously upon western materials and analyzed it in the sight of westerners.Based mainly Chinese materials,this paper analyzed the knowledge and understanding of some elites in the Qing dynasty,wishing to present a more objective analysis of some problems of diplomatic relations in the Qing dynasty.
