Abstract

Objective To compare the similarities and differences of arterial stiffness between patients with essential hypertension( EH) and patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus( DM) in high altitude area. Methods 100 EH patients( EH group) and 100 T2DM patients( DM group) over 60 years old admitted to our hospital from January to August 2012 were selected. FBG,TC,Cr,HbA1c,baPWV and IMT were compared between the two groups. Results The FBG,Cr and HbA1c in the EH group were significantly lower than those of the DM group, but TC,baPWV 〔( 10. 8 ± 1. 3) m / s〕,IMT 〔( 1. 4 ± 0. 4)mm〕 were significantly higher than the DM group 〔( 9. 3 ± 1. 2) m / s,( 1. 0 ± 0. 4) mm〕( P 0. 05). Conclusion Elderly patients with EH or T2DM exist arteriosclerosis, and the arterial stiffness in EH patients is more serious than T2DM patients in high altitude areas.
