The Relationship Between Endothelin, Nitric Oxide and Experimental Cerebral Vasospasm Following Subarachnoid Hemorrhage in Rabbit

Abstract

Aim:To investigate the relationship between endothelin (ET), nitric oxide (NO) and experimental cerebral vasospasm following subarachnoid hemorrhage (SAH) in rabbit. Methods: The model of SAH was set up, the food-intake and neurofunctions of experimental animals were under observation and the regional cerebral blood flow (rCBF) was measured. The contents of ET and NOx- in blood and CSF were determined. Results:The food-intake decreased in animals with SAH, and the neuroiunction disturbance appeared. rCBF decreases were also observed. The content of ET in blood and CSF increased but NOx- decreased ( P 0.01). Conclusion: Animal model with reliable symptomatic post-SAH CVS could be experimentally induced by injecting blood two times via cisternal after occlusion of bilateral carotid. The appearance of CVS was correlative to the content of ET and NO after SAH, and then the clinical symptoms deteriorate further.
