Abstract
Objective To investigate the relationship bet ween endothelin (ET),nitric oxide(NO) and experimental cerebral vasospasm follow ing subarachnoid hemorrhage in rabbit. Methods The model of SAH was set up by injecting blood two times into via cisternal after occlusion of bilateral carotid in rabbit. The food intake and neurofunctions of experimental animals were under observation at various stages of experiment. The content of ET in blood and CSF was determined by radioimmunoassay, and the NOx- by HNO3 reductase method, the regional cerebral blood flow(rCBF) was measured by hydrogen clearance method. Results It was observed that the food intake dec reased in most of animals with SAH in various degree, and the neurofunction disturbance appeared in all SAH animals. rCBF decrease were also observed in all SAH animals at various degree. The content of ET in blood and CSF increased but NOx- decreased(P0.01). The all of above mentioned changes were positively correlated to the duration of hemorrhage time and volume of injected blood. Conclusion Animal model with reliable symptomatic post S AH CVS can be experimentally induced by injecting blood two times into via cisternal after occ lusion of bilateral carotid. The appearance of CVS is correlative to the conte nt of ET and NO after SAH, and then the clinical symptoms deteriorate further. T he rCBF value and food intake class as well as neurological deficit grade can be the reliable indicators of CVS after SAH.
