This article discusses the development of small towns from 1949 to 1989 in China, which had come through four stages:(1) Resumption,from 1949 to 1952;(2) decline and rerising,from 1953 to 1966; (3) stagnancy and shrink,from 1967 to 1978; (4) rapid growth and prosperity,from 1978 to 1989.
