Study on the Relationship between Confidence, Social Support and Quality of Life of Elderly Chinese in Suzhou

Abstract

Objective In order to understand the present situation of quality of life?confidence and social support among elderly population in Suzhou and the influence of confidence and social support on the quality of life of the elderly Chinese. To analyze the differences in results obtained from the U.S.A. MOS SF-36 and QOL questionnaire for elderly. Method The 167 elderly Chinese in Suzhou were investigated with PGC Moral scale, SSRS, MOS SF-36 and QOL questionnaire for old people. Results Between the quality of life evaluated by both SF-36 and QOL questionnaire for old people and their confidence,there was positive correlation, but the scores of social support was correlated only with the quality of life evaluated by questionnaire for old effect people.Conclusion Confidence and social support are two major factors closely related with quality of life of old people. To explore the relationship of confidence and quality of life, both the SF-36 and QOL questionnaire for old people are satisfactory, but for the social support, especially the subjective support, the QOL questionnaire for old people may be more sensitive and more preferable.
