Abstract
Objective:To investigate the significance of angiopoietin-2(Ang-2)and vascular endothelial growth factor(VEGF)in ovarian endometriosis, and the relationship to angiogenesis. Methods:ElivisionTm plus Immunohistochemical and stereology method were used to detect Ang-2,VEGF and microvessel density(MVD)in 30 cases of ectopic endometrium,30 cases of eutopic endometrium in ovarian endometriosis and 30 cases of endometrium in ovarian teratoma as the normal control. Results:The mean optical density(MOD)of Ang-2 in ectopic endometrium of endometriosis, eutopic endometrium of endometriosis and the normal control was 0.28±0.13,0.16±0.05,0.13±0.04 respectively. The MOD of VEGF was 0.32±0.08,0.47±0.12,0.39±0.14 in ectopic endometrium of endometriosis, eutopic endometrium of endometriosis and the normal control. There was statistical difference among each group(P0.05 or P0.01).The expression of MVD was 41.58±14.72,31.30±19.89 and 20.70±16.17 in ectopic endometrium of endometriosis, eutopic endometrium of endometriosis and the normal control respectively(P0.01).Ang-2,VEGF and Ang-2,MVD had obviously positive correlation in endometriosis, but there was no correlation to the normal control group.VEGF and MVD had obviously positive correlation in each group. Conclusions:The overexpression of Ang-2 and VEGF may play a significant role in the pathogenesis and development of ovarian endometriosis.
