Abstract

Objective To study the correlation between nm23 H1 expression and gastric cancer with metastasis. Methods Tumor specimens of the 197 gastric carcinomas were stained with antihuman nm23 H1 monoclonal antibody by immunohistochemical method. The correlation between nm23 H1 expression and classical clinico pathologic parameters was analyzed to determine the prognostic effect of nm23 H1 expression. Results Expression of nm23 H1 was detected in 45.18%(89/197) of all cancers. The expression of nm23 H1 was positively correlated with the intestinal type of gastric cancer, according to Lauren's classification, advanced pT categories, and survival period were also correlated with regional and distal lymph nodes metastasis. There was no significant correlation between nm23 H1 expression and tumor differentiation. Conclusion Expression of nm23 H1 correlated well with regional and distal lymph nodes metastasis. nm23 H1 is one of the better prognostic molecular markers. (Shanghai Med J, 2000, 23∶213 215)
