Clinical Significance of Detecting High-sensitivity C-Reactive Protein in Patients with Acute Exacerbation of Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease

Abstract

Objective To Discuss actions of serum high-sensitivity C-reactive protein(hs-CPR) level in the treatment of patients with an acute exacerbation of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease(COPD).Methods The fasting blood samples from were collected from 90 patients with an acute exacerbation of COPD(observation group) and 90 patients without cardiovascular or pulmonary diseases(control group) before and after treatment.The hs-CPR level in both groups was measured by an immunonephelometric assay.Results The hs-CPR level of the observation group before treatment was obviously higher than that of the control group,and was significantly decreased after the treatment.The concentration of hs-CRP in the observation group paralleled to the clinical classification,and the differences between these phases were statistically significant(P 0.01).Conclusion The serum hs-CRP is a sensitive marker indicating the pulmonary infection of COPD patients,and is one of the best markers to monitor the therapeutic effect in patients with an acute exacerbation of C0PD.hs-CRP is important in evaluating the severity and prognosis of patients with an acute exacerbation of COPD,and can be widely used in clinic.
