The relation of E-cadherin and MMP-2 expression to the invasion and metastatic of gastric cancer

Abstract

Objective:To investigate the expression of E-cadherin and Matrix metalloproteinase-2(MMP2) in human gastric cancer and their relationship with tumor cell invasion and metastasis.Methods:The collection of expession of E-cadherin and Matrix metalloproteinase-2 of gastric mucosa were detected in 20 cases of health control group, 83 cases of gastric cancer by using streptavidin-peroxidase immunohistochemistry.Results:All the nomal gastric mucosa abundantly expressed E-cadherin,but did not express MMP 2. The exprestion of E-cadherin and MMP 2 were 16.9% and 78.3% respectively in the gastric cancer group. The related factors with E-cadherin expression reduction were lower differentiation, depth of infitration, diffusive growth and lymphaden metastasis of gastric cancer cell.The related factors with MMP2 expression were the differentiation degree, lymphaden metastasis, depth of infiltration, diffusive growth and TNM stadium of gastric cancer cell. The non-related factors with E-cadherin expression reduction were the TNM stadium and the size of gastric cancer. The non-related factor with MMP2 expression was the size of gastric cancer.Conclusions:The declining and ascendence expressions of E-cadherin and MMP2 are significantly related with the infiltration and transferring of gastric cancer cell. The changes of the two expressions are the important biological characteristics of gastric cancer cell and can help the judgment of the gastric cancer transferring and the prognosis.
