Abstract

Objective:To observe the expression of MMP-9 in gastric cancer and to explore its clinical value in the occurrence, development of gastric cancer. Methods:The expressions of MMP-9 in gastric carcinoma tissues of 56 patients and normal gastric mucosa of 24 cases were detected by immunohistochemistry. Results:In 56 cases of primary gastric cancer, the positive rate of MMP-9 expression was 73.21%(41/56),far higher than that of the normal gastric mucosa(20.83%,5/24).The difference was significant(P0.01);There was a positive correlation between the expression of MMP-9 and the TNM staging, lymph node metastasis and serosal invasion and no correlation was observed between the expression of MMP-9 and differentiation of gastric cancer(P0.05). Conclusion:Matrix metalloproteinase MMP- 9 may be involved in the occurrence, development process, invasion and metastasis of gastric cancer. It can be used as an important tumor marker to judge the prognosis of gastric cancer.
