QUESTIONING THE MODERN CIVILIZATION,ENCOURAGING RETURN TO NATURE——On the romantic qualities in the literary works by Shen Congwen and Rousseau

Shen Congwen was one of the most important Chinese writers in the 20th century.Rousseau was the famous writer and philosopher of Enlightenment in the 18th century.Although they lived in different ages,their aesthetic ideas in literature were very much alike.Both Shen Congwen and Rousseau questioned human modern civilization and praised highly of human environment,measuring the society and man not by reason but by morality and emotion.Thus they both,calling for to nature,believed in emotion exceeding reason and morality prior to science.All in all,these two writers opposed the modern civilization,preferring countryside human environment;opposed the instrumental rationality,preferring freedom in the inner world of the heart;opposed the secularization,preferring return to the nature of humans.
