Abstract
Shen Congwen kept stressing his social status of through his life, which should be his rational self-recognition. Provincialist embodies Shen's essence of self-existence and real mentality rather than his realistic social status. The perspective of provincialist presents a different feature of his works with remarkable attractiveness. Shen was intended to describe the provincialists' strong but natural vitality in his West Human literary world, and the free spirit of life, which was harmony of man and nature. With the 'provincialist cultural standing point and life experience, Shen's works on urban life were concerned about the existing state of townspeople as an individual life, which was an introspection about humanity alienation in the process of modern civilization, while such concern on the life identity provides Shen's works with strong modern quality.
