Expression and Biological Behavior of p53 and PCNA in Gastric Carcino -ma

Abstract

Objective To study the relationship of the expression and biological behavior of protein p53(p53) and proliferating cell nuclear antigen(PCNA) in gastric carcinoma. Methods p53 and PCNA in 53 cases of gastric carcinoma and 20 cases of normal gastric tissue were detected by immunohistochemistry ( S-P technique). Results The positive rates of p53 and PCNA were 56.6 % , 92.5 % respectively. The rate of strong positivity for PCNA was 64.2%. The rates of positivity for p53 and strong positivity for PCNA were correlated with the histological type,depth of invasion and lymph node metastasis in gastric carcinoma. And the differences were statistically significant ( P 0.05) . The expression of p53 was correlated with strong positively for PCNA. Conclusion The expression of p53 and PCNA is significantly related to biological behavior of gastric carcinoma. And its clinical value of predicting the prognosis is important.
