Abstract
The acylation of sec-butanol with acetic anhydride was studied by using iodine as catalyst. The effect of different factors such as the amount of catalyst, the ratio of sec-butanol to acetic anhydride and reaction time on the yield of sec-butyl acetate was carefully studied. The results showed that I_2 had a good catalytic activity. The best reaction conditions were as follows:when the amount of sec-butanol was 0.1mol,the ratio of sec-butanol to acetic anhydride was 1.1,the amount of iodine as catalyst was 0.05g.After reacting for 30 min,the yield of sec-butyl acetate reached 97.6%.The product was colorless and transparent, and was characterized by refractive index and IR.
