Abstract

The acylation of sec-butanol with acetic anhydride was studied by using chitosan sulfate as the heterogeneous catalyst. The effect of different factors such as the amount of catalyst, the ratio of sec-butanol to acetic anhydride and reaction time on the yield of sec-butyl acetate were carefully studied. The results showed that chitosan sulfate exhibited a good catalytic activity. The best reaction conditions were as follows:when the amount of acetic anhydride was 0.1 mol,the ratio of sec-butanol to acetic anhydride was 1.1,the amount of chitosan sulfate used as the catalyst was 0.25 g.After reacting for 30 min,the yield of sec-butyl acetate reached 95.6%.The catalyst could be repeatedly used. The product was colorless and transparent. The product was verified by refractive index testing and IR spectrometry.
