Abstract

Synthesizing benzaldehyde glycol acetal from benzaldehyde and glycol using iodine as catalyst.Various factors concerned in the reaction have been investigated. The optimum conditions have been found, that is, the mole ratio of benzaldehyde to glycol is 1∶1.8, the mass ratio of the catalyst used to the reactants is 0.3%, water-carrying agent of cyclohexane is 8 mL and the reaction time is 1.0 h. Under these conditions, the yield of benzaldehyde glycol acetal may up to 84.9%.
