Abstract
[Objective]To find out,in Jiao Zhou City,current status of hand hygiene in health care settings,and investigate the relevant factors;To improve the compliance of hand hygiene of medical personnel by developing working mechanism or taking effective measures to reduce overall infection rate in hospitals.[Methods]Using questionnaire and direct hand hygiene testing,randomly sampled 180 doctors and nurses from hospitals at all levels(category III environment),including hospitals directly under city government administration and those at lower levels.Sampling method and accounting of live bacteria were in accordance with theTechnique Regulation of Disinfection issued by MOH.[Results]The rate of eligible hand hygiene practices of medical personnel is just 81.7%.Rate of hand washing before performing medical procedure is just 28.0%.Understanding of hand hygiene among health care personnel is weak,and so is the compliance of hand hygiene practices in proper steps.Insufficient hand cleaning facilities and equipments were found in hospitals,and lack of clear hand hygiene requirements for medical personnel from hospital administrations was also observed.[Conclusion]It is necessary to take prompt action and measure to improve hand-hygiene practices in health-care facilities in Jiao Zhou City.
