Study of periodontal implication with three different types of retainers

Objective To evaluate the periodontal implication with three types retainers.Methods Forty five cases were divided into three groups,and three types of retainers were used for each group at random A follow-up periodontal examination was carried out in one week,one month,three months and six months later,respectively.The periodontal condition was scored according to three parameters:GI,PI,CI.Result In the group with Hawley retainer,the parameters GI,PI,CI increased,but showed no statistic difference.The parameter GI of the group with thermoplastic retainer was significant after using the retainer.The group with bonded retainer was more significant in parameters GI,PlI,CI,especially the parameter CI.Conclusion Any types of retainers can affect the periodontal health,and the Hawley retainer has little effect on periodontal health.
