Abstract
OBJECTIVE To assess relationship between pterygium size and corneal astigmatism METHODS Sixty-three eyes with primary pterygium were evaluated according to measurement of visual acuity, refraction, corneal curvature, and pterygium size Preoperative data of 31 eyes were compared postoperative findings RESULTS Various degree of astigmatism were determined in the 59 eyes with pterygium The astigmatism was relation with length of astigmatism on the cornea, and the main of them was astigmatism with rule At three months degree of astigmatism was reduced, and visual acuity was improved CONCLUSIONS When pterygium reaches a critical size, astigmatism with rule could be induced The size of pterygium is relation with degree of astigmatism Excision of pterygium could improve corneal astigmatism and visual acuity
