Abstract

Chickens, geese, quails and pigeons were infected experimentally with 9 representative strains of APMV-1 isolated from the field cases of seven different species of poultry. The challenge tests showed that all isolates had high pathogenicity to chickens, quails and geese with the mortality of 60%-100%,except that the pigeon isolate gxp22 had no pathogenicity to chickens and geese.Significant signs and gross lesions were observed in the infected chickens, and those were also observed in the infected geese, but not in the infected quails.Three isolates of pigeon origin had high pathogenicity to pigeon with a mortality of 100%.The results of the challenge tests with all the strains were consistent with their epidemiological characters in the field. The results demonstrated that these 9 representative strains of APMV-1 are virulent pantropic viruses except gxp22.
