On Modernization of Xu Teli's Education Thoughts

Abstract

In the late Qing Dynasty and early Republic of China,in order to realize his dream ofsaving the nation through education,Xu Teli visited Jiangsu Province and Japan to observe the education situation there,and also studied education in France.After returning to China,Xu's education thoughts were formed.They are spreading education to administrative schools democratically,and working while studying.Xu Teli supported neither the never-changing federal education system nor copying the whole western educational system.He advocated to localize western education according to Chinese situation.The nature of Xu's thoughts on modern education evolved fromsaving the nation through educationtoeducating for revolution,which respectively belongs to two levels of reform and revolution.
