Causes of Recurrence after Bronchial Artery Embolization for the Treatment of Hemoptysis and discuss preventive measures

Objective Analyze the cause of recurrence hemoptysis after Bronchial Artery Embolization treat of Hemoptysis and discuss preventive measures.Methods From Mar.2005 to Aug.2011 189 patients with massive hemoptysis were treated by Bronchial Artery Embolization.The 21 of 189 patients with recurrent hemoptysis received repeated intervention therapy.When target focus after carefully angiography(including phrenic,intercostal,intrathoracic,etc.arteries) was found,the causes of hemoptysis this time was analyzed,then appropriate Embolic material was chosen to embolize target artery.Results Of 21 patients,4 of them was recanalization of previously embolized artery,missed embolization in 2 cases,nonbronchial systemic collateral supply in 13 cases and deterioration of the primary diseases in 2 cases.The 20 of 21 patients after the second intervention therapy bleeding ceased.During the follow-up period(4 months to 3 years) rebleeding did not occur.One patient did the third embolization treatment and bleeding ceased.Conclusion Thoroughly angiography,appropriate embolic material,complete embolizing all the target arteries,actively dealing with the primary disease can effectively improve the successful rate of interventional treatment for the hemoptysis.
