Non-Neoplastic Hemoptysis:The Treatment with Bronchial Artery Embolization

Objective To explore the therapeutic effect of large non-tumour hemoptysis with bronchial artery embolization.Methods 46 cases with large hemoptysis were diagnosed by imaging examination before the operation,during the operation,aortography was done first,then the bleeding arteriae were confirmed by selective angiography of bronchial artery or intercostal artery and embolized with silk threads and gelfoam via catheter.Results The bronchial artery embolization was succeed in 39 cases,Among these, hemoptysis was disappeared immediately after operation in 39,hemoptysis was diminised significantly in 6,hemoptysis recurred after the operation in 5 cases,the quick hemostatic rate immediately was 84.8% and the effective rate was 97.8%,the recurrent rate was 10.9%.Conclusion The method of bronchial artery embolization in treating large non-tumour hemoptysis is efficient.
