Abstract
It points out through analysis on unusual floods happened continuously in August 2004,July 2005 and August 2006 at Huayuankou that a) the composition of riverbed and hyper-sediment concentrated floods are the main reason of increased peak discharge at Huayuankou and;b) the operational mode of a regulated discharge regime of the river conducted by the Xiaolangdi Reservoir is the main reason of increased frequency of peak discharge. It puts forward an empirical formula to forecast peak discharge of Huayuankou and also suggests a) establish a group for studying increased peak discharge of Huayuankou and;b) increase the numbers of measuring cross-section and monitors the process of increased peak at the section from Xiaolangdi to Huayuankou.
