A Research on Words of Suffix "儿" in Hangzhou Dialect

Abstract

During Song Dynasty, the capital moved from the north to the south of China. The relocation of the capital brought the official language to Hangzhou dialect, which has different features from other dialects of Wu language in Zhejiang Province. The suffix 儿 in many words is one of the features. This article is a preliminary probe of the structure, pronunciation, origin and the main grammatical and using meanings of the 儿 words in Hangzhou dialect.
