Abstract
Objective To observe the expression of β-catenin,E-cadherin and Wnt-1 in patients with laryngeal carcinoma in order to investigate the relationships between these factors and their roles in laryngeal carcinoma, and to find out the tumor markers which might be used to predict tumor pathogenesis and metastasis of laryngeal carcinoma. Methods The expression in 35 tissue specimens of primary laryngeal carcinoma and 27 tissue specimens of laryngeal mucosa was detected by S-P method(immunohistochemistry) in order to investigate the relationship between these factors and clinical pathological features of laryngeal carcinoma. Results The percentage of abnormal expression of β-catenin in laryngeal carcinoma was significantly higher than that in laryngeal mucosa(P0.01).The percentage of abnormal expression of β-catenin in poor-differentiated carcinoma was significantly higher than that in well-differentiated laryngeal carcinoma(P0.05).The percentage of abnormal expression of E-cadherin in laryngeal carcinoma was obviously higher than that in laryngeal mucosa(P0.01).The abnormal expression of E-cadherin in poor-differentiated laryngeal carcinoma was significantly higher than that in well-differentiated laryngeal carcinoma(P0.01).The abnormal expression of E-cadherin was remarkably higher in patients with lympha node metastasis than that in patients without lympha node metastasis(P0.01),and the abnormal expression of E-cadherin in clinical stage Ⅲ,Ⅳ of laryngeal carcinoma was significantly higher than that in clinical stage Ⅰ,Ⅱ(P0.05).The percentage of abnormal expression of Wnt-1 in laryngeal carcinoma was significantly higher than that in laryngeal mucous(P0.01).The abnormal expression of β-catenin was positively related to that of E-cadherin(r=0.457,P0.01).Conclusion β-catenin,E-cadherin and Wnt-1 may play an important role in the pathogenesis, differentiation, infiltration and metastasis of laryngeal carcinoma. The synergism of β-catenin and E-cadherin may have some effects on the infiltration and metastasis of laryngeal carcinoma.
