Investigation on villege water source types and drinking water hygienic quality in Dongjiang river basin of Guangdong province

Abstract
To investigate the drinking water quality in villages of Dongjiang river basin(in Guandong Province),a total of 46 representative villages in Huizhou,Heyuan and Zengcheng districts were selected to investigate the types of water source,the wasys of water treatment and the quality of potable water.Results of investigation showed that the mountain spring water and well water were the main type of drinking water source in rural area.There was no corresponding clarification treatment for drinking water and the severe situation was observed around the water source area.The results of analysis on water quality showed that the drinking water was polluted by microorganism seriously because of the detectiong of total coliforms and total numbers of colony in more than 80% of total water samples.However,the pH value in these drinking water lower than the national standards for the drinking water quality were also observed.The content of iron,manganese and arsenic in some water samples exceeded the drinking standard of our country,which might be related with the local geographic environment.However,the contamination of nitrate in the well water could be due to the nitrogen leaching from farmland nearby the wells.In the mass,the sanitation of drinking water in villeges of Dongjiang river basin are poor and water purification should be paid more attention in the future.
