Preliminary clinical results of the implantation of the iris-claw lenses in phakic eyes for high myopia

OBJECTIVE To evaluate the efficacy and safety of the implantation of the Verisyse iris-claw phakic intraocular lens(IOL)for high myopia.METHODS Eighteen cases(31 eyes)of high myopia with-18?D～(-30?D) accepted the Verisyse iris-claw phakic intraocular lens(IOL)implantation.The average age of patients was 31.2 years old.They were followed up for 3 months.The uncorrected visual acuity,the best corrected visual acuity,the intraocular pressure were observed.RESULTS All 31 eyes were implanted successfully.Postoperatively,the mean BSCVA and the mean UCVA were 4.62±0.17,4.46±0.19 respectively at 3 months,it was better than preoperative BSCVA(P0.05).Postoperatively,the mean amplitude of accommodation at 3 months was better than preoperative,but there were no significant differences between them(P0.05).There were no significant differences between preoperative and 3 months postoperative mean intraocular pressure(P0.05).Postoperatively,the mean cell density change was 5.23?%(2767±166 cells/mm~2)at 3 months,the mean anteroposterior distance between the lens and the epithelium is 2.73±0.18?mm at 3 months.No severe complication occurred in 3 months postoperatively.CONCLUSIONS It was safe and effective for high myopic patients to implant the Verisyse iris-claw phakic intraocular lens(IOL),and long-term follow up was still required.
