Abstract
Objective To study the relationship between the expression of matrix metalloproteinase-2(MMP-2) and the clinical pathological characteristics of laryngeal squamous cell carcinoma. Methods Immunohistochemistry technique (ABC) was used to detect the expression and location of MMP-2 in the tissue of 43 cases with laryngeal squamous cell carcinoma. Results The positive expression rate of the MMP-2 protein was 29(67.4%) among the 43 laryngeal tumor tissues. It was significantly related to metastasis of the cervical lymph nodes (P0.05). MMP-2 was immunolocalized on the membranes and intracytoplasm of metastatic cluster tumor cells or the tumor cells adjacent to the basement membrane. Conclusion These results suggest that MMP-2 plays an important role in the tumor invasion and metastasis of laryngeal squamous cell carcinoma.
