Abstract

Objective To evaluate the effectiveness of bronchial artery embolization on the acute hemoptysis, and to observe healing effect by different embolism materials. Methods Bronchial artery embolization was performed in 28 cases with acute hemoptysis.18 cases were embolized with simple gelfoam particles and 10 cases with PVA.All patients were followed up for six to twelve months. Results Immediate and complete control was achieved in all patients.Recurrence occurred in 2 cases. Conclusion Bronchial artery embolization is a rather safe and effective method for treatment of acute hemoptysis.Application of superselective BAE with microcatheters and use of PVA was a means of choice.
